What I got out of taking the Inner Engineering course by Sadhguru

Like many of you, 2022 was a very very tough year for me. I lost any sense of steering my boat to where I wanted it to go. So at the very end of last year, I decided to do whatever it takes to return to co-creating my life instead of just letting whatever happen.

I’ve heard of Sadhguru and enjoyed a few of his videos over the years, but never felt the urge to dive in. On Dec 25th this urge came in so strongly that I ended up watching his interview with Mike Tyson and several others. It piqued my interest in his Inner Engineering course, and the price was far from prohibitive, so I committed to taking seven modules comprising the course in the next 4 weeks. Each module has a different theme and is 1.5 hours long.

There have been many teachings, methods, tools, and philosophies I learned about. The challenge often is how to incorporate them into your life and make it all whole and efficient. In short, I think this course does exactly that. The modules are concise, expertly crafted, and deliver more than enough food for thought and practice. The hardest part was to find 1.5 hours when I’m on empty stomach and not getting distracted. That alone made me start eating less and feeling a whole lot lighter both physically and mentally.

One of the biggest takeaways for me was to really put into practice responding instead of reacting. He breaks down the concept of responsibility and what it really means with a healthy dose of humor, using a character representing a typical man in Southern India. My 7-year-old son watched part of one module with me and was entertained, after which we had a nice discussion. Another deceivingly simple but very powerful lesson was on moment-to-moment awareness. I experienced how it can turn misery into happiness during a challenging breath-work exercise during my VortexHealing® training. Funny enough, it is called Karmic Intensive! Of course, the guru has something to say about Karma as well.

There is a lot more in the course, and I’ll be following it up with another part next month. But what I can share for now is that as I’m rewriting my story and identity to experience life as I’d like to, this course undoubtedly planted seeds of subtle but powerful change and gave me simple tools I can use every day. I totally agree with Tony Robbins that “complexity is the enemy of execution”. So having someone like Sadhguru who sheds light on so many misconceptions and our own confusion about life, available on-demand at an affordable price point, can be life-changing for many.
